Son of a Preacher Man (1968)
Dusty Springfield
Rating: 4.2
Before you ask: yes, I have seen Pulp Fiction, but I had heard this song long before I viewed that film. I'm not a huge fan of Dusty Springfield, but her soulful vocals fit the lyrics perfectly, and I enjoy the lyrics in all of their sweet innocence.
I don't think she needed the backup vocalists; they ruin some of her best moments in the song, especially near the end, when they randomly jump to a high note that seems out of place. Nonetheless, this song is a wonderful classic from the 60's, and it's worth listening to.
(Side note: oddly enough, this isn't one of the main 1001.)
