"Purple Haze" is one of the most well-known rock songs of all time, and Jimi Hendrix is a guitar master. Everyone can identify the opening riff, and the lyric confusion ("Excuse me while I kiss the sky") just made the song more popular and interesting. What if it was really "Excuse me while I kiss this guy"? Did it really matter? The song is well done, with a harsh and haunting vocal by Hendrix.
Though this isn't my favorite Jimi Hendrix song, it is indeed worthy of its place in the main 1001, and if you have never listened to it, then you are missing out.
